Sheffield Wednesday: Dom Howson discusses Fernando Forestieri’s future

|

It appears to be the end of the line for Fernando Forestieri at Sheffield Wednesday, according to Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live. During a recent Q&A session with some of the club’s supporters, he was asked whether or not he felt the 30-year-old had come to the end of his journey with the Owls.

The former Watford striker, who is now valued at £653k (as per Transfermarkt), was not part of Garry Monk’s squad that faced Nottingham Forest at the weekend and that came as a surprise to Howson who in response to the question, said: ‘It could be for Forestieri. I expected him to be in the squad last Saturday’.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

Wednesday held Sabri Lamouchi’s promotion hopefuls to a 1-1 draw at the weekend thanks to Connor Wickham’s stoppage-time equaliser after Joe Lolley put the visitors in front (as per BBC Sport).

TIF Thoughts…

Forestieri joined the Owls back in August 2015 in a deal reportedly worth £3.71m from Watford (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and has gone on to make 134 appearances for the club. During which, he has contributed 40 goals and provided 18 assists.

Do you think Forestieri still has something to offer the Owls?

This season, however, he has made just 17 appearances in the Championship, scoring twice and providing his teammates with two assists. The Argentina-born forward has been selected in the starting eleven for just 21% of their fixtures and therefore he has clearly fallen out of favour.

When he has featured, he has earned an underwhelming average performance rating of 6.64/10 according to WhoScored.com, making him Wednesday’s 13th most consistent performer – so you can understand why the club have decided against offering the player a new contract.
