Colin Fray discussed Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith’s future during a recent appearance on the BBC’s ‘Nottingham Forest Weekly’ podcast

As per Nottinghamshire Live, Smith’s contract with the Reds had been set to expire at the end of the June, however, this article explains that the goalkeeper has agreed to remain at the City Ground for the rest of the season, even though the campaign is currently set to carry on into July as a result of the current viral outbreak which forced the 2019/20 campaign to be postponed back in March

This report from Nottinghamshire Live also shares some complimentary comments that Forest manager Lamouchi made about Smith. The French coach is quoted as saying that Smith “deserves to stay at the club – not for the next month, but for more”.

Now, BBC Radio Nottingham commentator Fray has discussed Smith’s future and Lamouchi’s feelings about the player during his recent appearance on the BBC’s Nottingham Forest Weekly podcast

Fray said: “Clearly, Jordan Smith isn’t going to be [Lamouchi’s] first-choice goalkeeper. Brice Samba’s around, and there’s rumours he might be bringing in another goalkeeper as well, but he’s pretty keen – no, he’s more than that – he’s very, very keen for Jordan Smith to stay at the club, because he sees the value of him as a goalkeeper that can work with his first and maybe second-choice ‘keepers as well.

“Now, whether or not that’s enough for Jordan, we’ll wait to see. Jordan Smith might decide that the time has come to try his luck elsewhere and try and be a number one – whether that be lower down the pyramid or what, so that one remains to be seen.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by the manager’s recent comments about the goalkeeper, it may not come as a surprise that Fray has shared that Lamouchi is “very, very keen” to keep Smith at the City Ground, while the fact that the ‘keeper appears to be valued by Lamouchi may be appreciated by Smith.

However, the 25-year-old has made just one appearance for the Reds in all competitions this season, and with that in mind, Smith’s lack of game time may lead him to question whether or not he wants to commit his long-term future to the club and it may be understandable why Fray has raised the possibility that the player could still decide to leave the club despite the manager’s apparent fondness of him.
