Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has labelled Argentinian striker Adolfo Gaich as “the real deal” in an exclusive interview with MOT Leeds News. The Whites have been linked with a move for the San Lorenzo forward by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

Gaich is said to be on the radar of a number of European clubs such as Sevilla and Roma – as well as the Elland Road outfit – but Robinson believes Marcelo Bielsa’s influence could see the Yorkshire-based club land the 21-year-old.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

He said: “He’s the same nationality and it would be a big attraction for a young player like him to come to Elland Road and work under Bielsa.

“Gaich isn’t an unknown quantity. Roma are reportedly looking at him. A lot of top clubs in Europe are looking at him. I think Leeds would be ahead of some of the bigger clubs in Europe purely because of the Bielsa factor.”

The attacker has played 12 times in Argentina’s Superliga this season, scoring five goals – and according to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating currently stands at 6.84/10.

TIF Thoughts…

Patrick Bamford has led the line for Leeds United this season, scoring 13 goals in the Championship and providing three assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). In January, the club brought Jean-Kevin Augustin in from RB Leipzig, but he’s failed to make an impact thus far, appearing just three times in the league and playing a total of just 48 minutes for Bielsa’s side.

Judging by Robinson’s comments, a deal for Gaich would seem a realistic one for the Championship leaders, though with the club’s challenge for promotion and the future of Augustin potentially hanging in the balance, it remains to be seen whether the striker will become a viable option for the Whites in the summer.
