Phil Hay has claimed that Jean-Kevin Augustin has ‘suffered a recurrence of his hamstring strain’ and that this ‘sounds like a setback’ for the Frenchman.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

However, as of yet, Leeds United have said nothing on the matter, though it is alleged that the man on loan from RB Leipzig had suffered an injury just 11 days before the Whites are due to restart their campaign.

Since arriving from Leipzig on loan in January until the end of the season, the Frenchman has managed three appearances for the Whites, totalling just 48 minutes on the pitch.

However, the enforced break has allowed him to put some work in behind the scenes, and there was hope that Augustin was ready to have a big impact on the rest of the season.

A report in Football Insider claimed that staff at Elland Road were impressed by his progress.

However, this could all now be undone if Hay’s fears are confirmed.

TIF Thoughts…

Augustin scored 12 goals in all competitions for Leipzig in the 2017/18 season, while last season he managed eight – but for AS Monaco earlier this season, he only recorded one strike.

For Leeds, he hasn’t really had enough time on the pitch to have an impact, but if Hay is correct, then the Frenchman could be missing for the first match of the restart when the Whites face Cardiff City on June 21.

The club have still not said anything about Augustin’s injury, but hopefully, for his sake, it is not as bad as it is feared, and that he can be available for that game against Neil Harris’ side.
