The Athletic recently published an article which shared the news that Derby County midfielder Tom Huddlestone has rejected an official offer of a contract extension.

Huddlestone’s current Rams deal is set to expire at the end of June and The Athletic claims that “there have been no conversations over whether Huddlestone would play on” beyond the end of this month.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

As stated by The Athletic, a report last week revealed that the 33-year-old midfielder was offered a new deal with the club, however, this article also claimed that this contract offer was “likely to be on much-reduced terms”. The Athletic’s recent report elaborates on this, stating that Huddlestone was offered a deal that would see him remain at Pride Park for another season, with an option for the club to further extend his stay at the end of next season included. The contract offer was also “understood to be heavy on incentives”.

It appears as though this deal was unsatisfactory for the midfielder, as he is said to have rejected the offer. The report claims that Huddlestone is keen to secure a two-year deal, with the second season of that deal seeing him “work in more of a player-coach capacity”.

Would Tom Huddlestone be a big loss for Derby County next season if he doesn't renew his contract?

TIF Thoughts…

Huddlestone, who is currently valued at £720k according to Transfermarkt, has played fewer league minutes than a total of 18 other Rams players this season. He has also earned a lower average overall rating than 15 of his Derby teammates during the 2019/20 Championship campaign, according to WhoScored.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that the 33-year-old hasn’t played an incredibly significant role for the Rams this term, and it may be understandable why the club might be hesitant to offer him a lucrative deal in order to convince him to remain at Pride Park.
