West Brom-focused Twitter account @BaggiesHQ recently posted a tweet asking fans of the club whether or not they think they “should go in for Dwight Gayle again” if they are promoted to the Premier League next season.
This post has caught the attention of a lot of West Brom fans, many of whom have been sharing their view that the club shouldn’t make a move for Gayle.
The 29-year-old striker was on loan at West Brom during the 2018/19 season and it may be fair to say that he enjoyed a fairly successful loan spell at the club, scoring 23 goals and providing eight assists in 39 Championship appearances during the regular season. Gayle also scored a goal in his one appearance in the Championship play-offs last season.
However, despite ending the 2018/19 season as the club’s top league goalscorer, the Baggies decided not to sign the striker on a permanent deal following his loan spell last season. Now, some Baggies fans have been sharing that they don’t want to see Gayle return to the club for next season either, should they earn a promotion to England’s top-flight. Read the responses of some Baggies fans to @BaggiesHQ’s recent post in the tweets below.

Forget him. That ship has sailed

We need something different and more prolific at PL level

Just me that thinks he doesn’t particularly suit our system anyway? It’s not like we have chances flying across the penalty area like last season. We should go for the players that Bilic wants for how he wants to play

He’ll be 30 and he’s not good enough in the premier league
— Gareth (@WBAGareth) May 6, 2020
Unfortunately, no. He’s not proved himself in the Premier League at all. Fantastic championship striker and that’s as far as it goes.

What do we think?
Gayle has failed to score a single Premier League goal for Newcastle United in 379 minutes of league football, as per WhoScored.com. He has also earned an average overall rating of just 6.22 from his 12 league appearances for the Magpies this season according to WhoScored. A total of 23 players have earned a higher average overall rating than Gayle for Newcastle this term.
With all of that in mind, it may be understandable why some Baggies fans don’t want Gayle, who is currently valued at £8.55m according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, to return to The Hawthorns next season.
