Fans of Rangers have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which comments on the news that Rangers’ relationship with outgoing Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley and his company, Sports Direct, will be over at the end of this season.
According to reports in the Daily Record, Sports Direct will no longer have any association with Rangers as of next season, bringing an end to a seven-year relationship between the two companies.
In reaction to the news, Heart & Hand posted on Twitter: “Rangers are free from the clutches of Ashley. This is huge news.”
In response to the tweet, fans of the club have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many claiming that, aside from winning a trophy, this is the best news that a Rangers fan could receive, while others have stated their belief that the Rangers board deserves a great deal of credit for ending the commercial relationship with Sports Direct.
Are you pleased to hear the news that Ashley will no longer have anything to do with Rangers?

Aside from winning a trophy, this is the best news we could get. If he is away, it’s the last vestige of the banter years we had to rid ourselves of. And if he’s away, and COVID permitting, I think there’ll be sales of kit like we’ve never had before. I detest the leach. ????

What do we think?
Following a long-running court battle between Ashley’s company and Rangers, as well as the Sports Direct-controlled Rangers club shop stocking items such as T-shirts featuring players who had left the club two years earlier, it is unsurprising to see that news of the club’s association with Ashley and Sports Direct coming to an end has been received well by many of the Gers fans.
