Many Leeds United supporters have been responding to Brian Deane’s recent Twitter post. The former Whites striker posted a picture of the shirt and boots he wore during the club’s emphatic victory over Queens Park Rangers back in November 2004, a game in which he netted four times.
After originally playing for Leeds from 1993-1997, Deane returned to Elland Road for a second spell with the club in 2004, joining from West Ham United on a free transfer (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk), shortly after Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2003/04 campaign.
The forward went on to score just one more goal that season, at Sunderland on Boxing Day and in the summer of 2005, he moved to Australia to sign for Perth Glory.
Deane was born in Leeds and judging by the tone of his tweet, it’s a club he still holds close to his heart. Here is how some of the Elland Road faithful have responded to his post.
Not being funny Deano, but I remember saying to my daughter on the way home “I bet you thought we’d never see the day when Deano got us 4 goals in a game”. I used to put 2 quid on you at the bookies in the NW Stand for you as first scorer for 3 seasons, you lost me a fortune!

I honestly said to my mate when walking up the stand, “Deano will have to justify wearing them!” Then we went 1-0 down in the 1st minute! What a day after that! Thank you for all you did for Leeds.

I brought my American cousin to that game, his first proper football game, he has been hooked ever since, took a shirt with your name on back to Washington!

What do we think?
It’s clear from the above responses that the fans still adore Brian Deane and therefore it’s no wonder he still enjoys a strong connection with the Whites faithful.
