Former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Dean Kiely recently caught the attention of a lot of Addicks fans after he posted a tweet in response to a post from the Addicks’ official Twitter account which announced that he has been voted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

Charlton’s post included a link to an article from the club’s official website which explains that Kiely “received 66% of the vote for the period between 1981 and the present day”, to seal his place in the club’s Hall of Fame. This article explains that he will be inducted alongside Mike Flanagan and Sailor Brown.

Kiely replied to Charlton’s tweet stating that he is honoured “to be mentioned in the same sentence” as his fellow Hall of Fame inductees. He goes on to share some gratitude for having had the opportunity to play alongside “great players” during his career.

Kiely’s post drew a positive reaction from a lot of Addicks fans who took the opportunity to share praise for the ex-goalkeeper in response to his tweet.

Some Charlton fans went so far as to state that Kiely is the best goalkeeper they’d ever seen at Charlton Athletic.

As explained in this post on the Addicks’ official website, Kiely made 248 appearances for Charlton during his time at the club, winning Charlton’s ‘Player of the Year’ award in both 2002 and 2004. With that in mind, it may be understandable why these Addicks fans have some positive memories of the goalkeeper from his time at the club.
