A Charlton Athletic supporter recently caught the attention of many Charlton fans on Twitter after she posted a tweet asking fellow Addicks fans how they would feel about Mike Ashley becoming the club’s owner.
There has been some speculation about Ashley’s future in football of late, amid reports that PCP Capital Partners’ takeover of Newcastle United, the club which Ashley currently owns, is “nearing its completion”. There have been some suggestions that Ashley may be planning to buy an EFL club once the Newcastle takeover is completed, as reported by The Daily Star via nufcblog.co.uk.
While some of the Charlton fans who responded to this tweet noted that they aren’t particularly big fans of Ashley, most of the Addicks fans who replied to this tweet shared that they would take the 55-year-old at The Valley.

I hate him, however he would bring us stability as he has done with Newcastle, that’s the one thing we desperately need

Would you take Mike Ashley at Charlton Athletic?YES, HE'D BE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVENO, I DON'T WANT HIM NEAR THE CLUB |
The new owners and the previous one were so bad I’d actually consider it. That says a great deal about our owners

100% wouldn’t even question it.

What do we think?
It may be fair to say that things have been somewhat hectic behind the scenes at Charlton in recent months since East Street Investments completed a takeover of the club back in January. As explained by talkSPORT, the club’s majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer and now-former chairman Matt Southall became engaged in a public row which Addicks manager Lee Bowyer shared some regret over.
Furthermore, the EFL have also “launched an investigation” into the takeover of the club, as reported by Sky Sports, with Nimer failing to “satisfy EFL requests for proof and source of funding”.
Considering how hectic things have been behind the scenes at Charlton Athletic of late, it may be understandable why some would take Mike Ashley as the owner of the club, despite not being particularly fond of him.
