Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the news that former Lilywhites ace Kieran Trippier has been charged by the FA for allegedly breaching betting rules.
According to Sky Sports (via Daily Hotspur), the England international has been charged with misconduct for breaching betting rules related to his move from Spurs to Atletico Madrid last summer. The report suggests that he either directly or indirectly made bets relating to his move to Diego Simeone’s side in 2019 and now has until May 18 to provide a response.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Burnley in 2015 and went on to make 114 appearances for the Lilywhites, contributing two goals and 24 assists (per Transfermarkt). Last summer, he completed a move to Atletico Madrid and has impressed in his first season in La Liga, averaging a 7.02 rating across 19 appearances in the Spanish top flight (per WhoScored).

These Spurs fans seem to find the Trippier news quite amusing.
What do we think?
It seems strange that the FA are charging Trippier for something that must have happened nearly a year ago, but it probably wasn’t the brightest thing for the former Burnley man to do if he actually did bet on his own transfer.
