Spurs fans on Twitter have been discussing some of Jose Mourinho’s comments on Giovani Lo Celso.
COYS.com shared some old quotes from the Portuguese manager regarding the Argentine international. The former Manchester United and Chelsea manager told the club’s official website:
“When I arrived, he was not playing. I didn’t believe in him or understand him immediately. Three or four months later, Giovani is phenomenal. If I came in July, I would again be in a grey area with Giovani. Now, next season, I know exactly what Giovani can give.”
Spurs originally signed the midfielder on loan from Real Betis last summer, before his performances convinced Mourinho that it was worthwhile making his transfer a permanent one in the January transfer window.
Were you surprised by how much Lo Celso has improved?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Mourinho’s quotes on Lo Celso can be seen below.
I knew that Gio was a great player. I saw him in Rosario Central and Argentina squad. I saw him when he gave assists to Messi in Copa América. I have always liked him.

Superb signing can only get better .

This tells me Jose is clueless. He was on team of the year in Spain and a full Argentina international…

He had the potential to be better than prime Eriksen

I can not wait wow Lo Celso, Ndombele Bergwijin, Gedson, Lamela, Winks, Son Dele, Moura, Sissoko, Sessegnon, Dier & Skipp
We just need to add a TOP QUALITY DM in that squad & we will have a hell of a starting MF & very good backupsIf Levy did add a Coutinho/Bale in there WOW!!!

My fave Spurs midfielder right now. He immediately step in to seal the void of Eriksen

Huge improvement.
Didn’t see that in him.
Pleasant surprise.
He can be better.— bullxead (@bullxead) May 5, 2020
These Spurs fans clearly have a lot of faith in Lo Celso and seem glad that Mourinho seems to feel the same way.
What do we think?
Although Lo Celso is yet to score or assist in the Premier League, his performances in the Champions League; where he averaged an impressive 7.31 rating, suggest that Spurs have a quality player on their hands.
