In his latest article for Football.london, Alasdair Gold answered a question on how the current viral outbreak could impact Daniel Levy and ENIC’s ownership of the club.

The journalist discussed whether the outbreak could lead to ENIC and Levy potentially selling the club, although he seemed to dismiss any sort of rumours suggesting that there will be a takeover at the North London club any time soon. He writes per Football.london:

Spurs signed Eriksen in 2013 but from which team?

“Something else that has long circled around the club is the prospect of a takeover.

“Rarely a month goes each year by without an NFL franchise owner or a global giant of a company being linked with buying out ENIC in the latest WhatsApp or Facebook circular that does the rounds, often originating on April Fool’s Day.

“In March, Levy made it clear that there was no intention to sell the club when asked at a meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust.

“Whether the financial impact of the coronavirus since has some influence on that decision going forward will be determined in the months ahead.”

He also writes that:

“With the world’s most famous manager at the helm and that new stadium and training ground constructed, much of the off the field structure is in place for a sale.

“Whether the success on the pitch though is in place to raise the value of the club significantly is another thing with that distinct lack of silverware and recent history.

“Some fans will continue to call for new owners, but how soon such a move occurs remains to be seen.”

Do you hope that ENIC sell the club?

What do we think?

ENIC became majority shareholders of Tottenham Hotspur back in 2000, taking over from Alan Sugar and they have helped the Lilywhites to regular Champions League football and top-half Premier League finishes in recent years. Despite this, Levy is still criticised by a lot of Lilywhites supporters for his apparent frugality when it comes to transfer dealings, although the North London club did spend heavily on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon last summer.

It was reported earlier this week that Jose Mourinho may be forced to make do with free transfers and swap deals in the summer transfer window, due to the current viral outbreak, which has clearly had a financial impact on the club. Fortunately, the Lilywhites reversed their original decision to furlough staff, following a lot of criticism, but unfortunately for Spurs fans who want ENIC out, Gold’s report seems to suggest they won’t be selling any time soon.
