The proposed takeover of Newcastle United looks to be edging ever closer, after Saudi Arabian journalist Tariq Al Nofal suggested on Twitter that it was done.

The journalist simply posted: “#NUFC done”, which of course seems to suggest that the proposed takeover from Mike Ashley seems to have finally been completed. Amanda Staveley has been leading a bid, alongside Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and the Reuben brothers, as they look to become majority shareholders of the North East club, in a deal thought to be worth around £300 million (per BBC).

Mike Ashley bought the club back in 2007 and has endured a serious amount of criticism during his 13-year-spell there, which included the club being relegated on two occasions. However, it now seems as if his affiliation with the Premier League side is coming to an end, as the proposed takeover edges closer to completion, with the tweet from Al Nofal certainly suggesting that all the necessary paperwork has been completed and approved.

TIF Tactics:

It has certainly been a long and drawn-out process that has certainly not been short of drama, but it looks as if the takeover of Newcastle United will be announced in the coming days. It has been suggested that the North East club’s number-one target to take over as manager is Mauricio Pochettino, with the former Spurs boss reportedly set to be handed a huge transfer budget by the prospective new owners, so it will be interesting to see how active the club are in the upcoming summer transfer window, should the takeover now be completed.

After Al Nofal’s tweet on Friday, fans will just have to wait until an official announcement is made, but for those who are in favour of the takeover, it seems to be very good news.
