George Caulkin has claimed that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium are still awaiting a call from the Premier League regarding their proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

This comes after reporter John Richardson claimed that the deal was done and that an announcement was imminent.

This was then followed by a story from the Daily Express saying the same thing and an official Saudi Arabian news channel also reporting this.

Caulkin’s post comes after NUFC fan @archieross09 asked the Athletic reporter about the Saudi broadcast.

One fan claimed that the broadcast was just a rehash of the story that the Express published and Caulkin confirmed this.

Do you believe Caulkin instead of the claims that an announcement is imminent?

He then said that the consortium are still waiting for the Premier League.

What do we think?

Despite this, though, Caulkin remains positive that the takeover will be approved by the Premier League even if he thinks some people have jumped the gun.

However, it certainly feels like it is getting closer as Paul Smith confirmed last week that the league were ‘very close’ to approving the takeover.

Richardson tweeted on the 20th to say that an announcement was imminent – so it feels like we are getting there, and official confirmation on this takeover might not be far away.

There have been numerous challenges from the likes of BeIN Sports and Amnesty International, but it seems like the Premier League have found nothing that would make them block the takeover.

The deal has been with the Premier League for a while after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley, but all of this new information suggests that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Newcastle fans.
