Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been fuming over recent comments made by former Magpies striker Shola Ameobi.
This comes after Newcastle journalist Mark Douglas shared a post on his official Twitter page that included an article from Chronicle Live which relays Ameobi’s comments from a recent interview with Sky Sports.
On the club’s potential takeover, Ameobi said that if Newcastle get “the right owners who want to invest in the right way”, then the sky would be the limit for the Tyneside club.
Douglas captioned his post summarising Ameobi’s remarks by saying that the Nigerian “seems excited” by the prospect of a deal if it’s done.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans, who were not accepting of Ameobi’s comments.
It seems that many Newcastle fans have not forgotten Ameobi’s past comments on the Ashley regime – which could be about to come to an end – with the ex-striker previously defending the businessman’s tenure as Magpies owner.
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans responding to Douglas’ post:
First club employee to comment on takeover?
Shola looking in like everyone else. But seems excited by prospect of deal if it's done.https://t.co/Kjuu9zwMza

First thing he can do is clear off. Can’t trust a word he says. Puppet.

Ashley is leaving and now Shola joins the fan base again.
Sympathiser, I’ll not forget it.

Would you sack Shola Ameobi from the club?
Yes
No
Ameobi is currently Newcastle’s loan manager after retiring from football back in 2018. Now that the 38-year-old has come out and shared his thoughts on the potential takeover of Newcastle by Amanda Staveley and her Saudi-based consortium, this opened the door for plenty of Newcastle fans to have their say on the former striker.
Trying to make him sound important…serious questions have to be asked of his success in a role he was never qualified for

Stood by Mike Ashley. If someone doesn’t want to be public in their criticism ok fine, but to come out & publicly rewrite history about the man who’s brought misery to the club & go against the fans was really poor of him.

If he’s not immediately sacked the new board don’t know what they are doing, and id be worried about our future.

Still stealing a living

What do we think?
It seems as though these Newcastle fans don’t see a future for Ameobi at the club if the takeover goes through.
