A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from Mark Douglas that includes an article produced by Ciaran Kelly on Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan was linked with a move to Newcastle by ESPN and Kelly claims that his camp are talking up a move to Tyneside – with Cavani’s contract at PSG set to expire in June.
The reason Cavani has been linked with Newcastle is because of the proposed takeover that is currently waiting for the Premier League to give their decision.
If it went through then, apparently Cavani would be a target, and according to this report, he might be keen on the idea of playing at St. James’ Park.
This has pleased these Toon fans.
Do you think Cavani would be interested in a move to St James' Park?
Yes
No
Really interesting piece from @CiaranKelly__ who has been hitting the phones this week.
Edison Cavani's camp playing up #nufc links, it seems: https://t.co/odnFJ7o6y3

Genuinely expect this one to have legs, due to geopolitics. PIF would love the idea of signing a player that has just left the employ of Qatari owners. It would be a big statement in more ways than one.

Certainly seems they are going to be targeting a certain class of player doesn’t it.
Koulibaly.
Cavani.
Soumare.
Coutinho.
James Rodriguez.
Stones.They aren’t messing about. #NUFC

However, others are not convinced and have also pointed out a mistake that was initially made in the piece.
He’s from Uruguay not Argentina. The chronicle at its journalistic best again.

The article mentions the Argentines contract expires in June. He is from Uruguay though… pic.twitter.com/zCe7xvqau8

Any agent with any sense who has a client coming to the end of a contract or with string links to another team (especially in the premier league) will be using our name. I’ll start taking this stuff a bit more seriously if the takeover actually happens.

What do we think?
The 33-year-old has scored a staggering 200 goals for PSG, and in that time, he has won 22 trophies; however, it looks like his time with Thomas Tuchel’s men is up, and he will now be looking for a new club when his deal expires.
Cavani might be of interest to Newcastle, but we don’t think there is any point discussing any transfers until the takeover is announced.
