A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from NUFC 360, which has relayed quotes made by an article in L’Equipe.
L’Equipe claims (via Sport Witness) that the Toon have made concrete contact with Mauricio Pochettino and that the prospective new owners want a sporting director and an academy director in place.
However, a source told L’Equipe that the deal will not pass the Premier League’s checks – it is this section that has got these Toon fans talking. (Via @NUFC 360)
Does this update concern you?
No, all just seems a bit random
Yes, I am worried
The writer of the article, Huge Delom, ends it by saying: “Some people have told me they [buyers] will not pass the committee of the Premier League.” #nufc

Well then I hope the PL are ready to get absolutely rinsed in court by the buying AND selling side. And of course the diplomatic ramifications of rejection. The PL wouldn’t dare, they’ve got enough to contend with at the moment.

So they are saying we are looking to do all these things yet they won’t get in? How does this work? Surely the headline should be about the failure to pass the premier league tests and the first people to do so?

Surely no one can believe this…

If they wernt going to past they’d have been failed already in the first two weeks everything that was of concern was already known I don’t know any organisation that would sit and wastes nearly a month processing something if they knew it was just going to fail at the end

Surely the bigger story here, if the sources were reliable, would have been the fact the PL are going to reject the takeover. Seems like guesswork.
I just wish this was done and dusted either way.

Any credibility in this at all?

What do we think?
This seems to be a very confused piece as it includes both positive and negative views on the takeover.
The facts are that a deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium has been agreed and a deposit has been paid to Ashley.
The deal is now with the Premier League, and a decision is not expected until next week, so all of this just seems like speculation considering the buying side remain ‘overwhelmingly positive’ about the deal. (Live blog, 04/05/2020, 19:14)
It will be interesting to see what the Premier League decide to do.
