A group of Newcastle United supporters have been responding to an update on Twitter from The Athletic’s George Caulkin regarding the proposed takeover of the club. The Magpies faithful have been waiting on the Premier League to give the Saudi-led consortium the green light to acquire the club but there is yet to be any official confirmation.
@Geordie_Hollie7 asked the question via the social media platform, to which Caulkin replied: “It hasn’t been officially signed off by the Premier League yet.” That is despite some outlets claiming an announcement could be imminent. Here is how some of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded to the senior writer’s comments.
So it’s been approved but not officially signed off?

The frustrating part is, and I am assuming that it has unofficially been given the go-ahead…therefore test are ready….Why is it taking so long to put it in writing? There is a hold up somewhere.

Is that an ‘it hasn’t been officially signed off yet’ like my amazon parcel which is due in the next hour hasn’t been signed off yet or more like the million pound bonus I’ve been asking for not being signed off yet? #nufc

Are you confident of the takeover being given the green light?
Yes
No
George does that mean the new owners have had the unofficial nod that it will be passed but the premier league have to get project restart done first?

Have the buyers had any new indications of how far the PL are from giving the green light?

What do we think?
It’s clear from the above responses that George Caulkin’s comments led to more questions rather than clarity. It is understandable why some of the Newcastle United fans have seemingly grown impatient with the whole thing.
The situation has reminded some of the previously failed takeover by the Bin Zayed Group, with this latest update sparking fears that Mike Ashley’s reign as Toon owner could be set to continue after all as negotiations continue to drag on.
The proposed takeover has faced much opposition from some of the Premier League’s partners, most notably BeIN Sports, and so any checks would need to be done thoroughly and be seen to satisfy those concerned by the Saudi-led consortium’s involvement.
