A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from NUFC 360, which includes news that they have relayed from The Telegraph.
They claim that other members of the Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee will reject Giles Watling’s request for them to scrutinise the planned Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United.
This comes after The Times’ Martyn Ziegler claimed that Watling would seek to establish an evidence session that could hold up the sale of the Toon but, if The Telegraph’s report is to be believed, this will not happen.
This news has delighted these Toon fans, who feel more confident about the takeover going through.
What do you make of this report?
Looking good just down to the Premier League now
Still not sure
A parliamentary committee is going to reject a call from one of its own members for it to scrutinise the planned Saudi Arabia-led takeover of Newcastle United. #nufc [Telegraph]

When our own deputy prime minister visits Saudi Royal family to support their reform programme there is no way the EPL are going to be allowed to rock the boat by interfering with the #NUFC takeover

Common sense has been spoken, at last?

Let’s have faith in the system. You will always have a couple of rogue wolves in a pack but this Government won’t intervene in the process of the takeover. Exactly why from all previous posts. This will go through ??????

Is this the first time we’ve seen the green light flicker? I hope so. It would be nice to relieve some of the tension and be done with Ashley. New chapter, new beginnings.

And that folks should be an end to it all.

What do we think?
The initial report in The Times caused many Toon fans to panic as it seemed to indicate that the government would get involved – despite previously saying they wouldn’t.
However, this new piece seems to suggest that the government will stick to their word.
The deal is currently with the Premier League going through the required checks after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley.
The wait for the Premier League’s decision goes on, but this report seems to have eased the fears of some Toon fans.
