To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

Asked by one fan about if the Premier League had approved the takeover, Caulkin responded and claimed that the league have not officially signed off on the deal yet.

This update from Caulkin comes after a report in the Daily Star claimed that the deal would be approved in the coming days, while another report in The Sun claimed that the takeover would be announced on the 1st of June.

French journalist Manu Lonjon also claimed on Monday that an announcement was imminent and that something could happen within 24-48 hours.

However, Caulkin seems to have dismissed suggestions that the takeover is about to be announced as he believes it is still with the Premier League.

Do you believe Caulkin over the other reports?

What do we think?

The deal for Mike Ashley to sell Newcastle United to Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium has been with the Premier League for a while now after a deposit was paid to Ashley.

Since then, numerous challenges from the likes of BeIN Sports and Amnesty International have emerged, but the report from Neil Custis in The Sun seemed to suggest that everything was fine and a deal was lined up to be announced.

However, Caulkin’s claim suggests that the Premier League are still going through the process of checking every aspect of the takeover.

It is unclear how much longer these checks could take, but if Caulkin believes it is still with the Premier League, then maybe it is not as close as some have claimed.
