A group of Newcastle United fans have been responding to a tweet by the Chronicle’s Mark Douglas regarding the takeover of the club. As far as we are aware, the deal is with the Premier League at present whilst they complete their checks, and until they give the Saudi-backed consortium the green light, the transaction cannot be completed.
Douglas was asked on Twitter whether the fans should ‘start to get worried’ by the lack of progress and the impact of those who have expressed concerns regarding the takeover. Douglas responded by saying the ‘buyers are still positive’ and that he still believes, as he has throughout, that they will pass the checks.

Maybe the PL are gonna say “No” and they’re looking to make sure the would be buyers can’t appeal it?

I know the PL are looking at this rigourously, to avoid any litigation. But I’d be interested to know if it would take this long, if it was one of the top four clubs in the country.

The buyers have been positive for the last three years. I don’t care if deposits have been paid and contracts signed, Mike Ashley can, and probably will, pull the deal and this will all disappear yet again.

Do we know IF and that’s a big if here, the premier league rejects the takeover will they announce it or will we be left looking for clues from the buyer/seller?

What do we think?
Despite Douglas’ comments, many of these Newcastle United fans remain concerned about whether or not the deal will be approved by the authorities. In our view, the delay could be due to the Premier League having to dig that little bit deeper and ensuring no stone is left unturned due to the pressure being applied by those who have raised their concerns – not to mention the ongoing pandemic.
