A group of Liverpool fans have been reacting to a recent Twitter post from Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutch midfielder shared a photo of himself and his teammates keeping their distance at the club’s Melwood training facility. Earlier this week, the Premier League’s shareholders voted unanimously for a return to contact training, but it’s said that any unnecessary close contact should be minimised.

Wijnaldum has been a key figure for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds this season – he has started in 97% of their Premier League games so far. The 29-year-old’s post has drawn many responses from Liverpool fans on the social media platform. Here is a sample of what some of them had to say.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The former Newcastle United midfielder has little over a year remaining on his current contract and there is yet to be an announcement regarding an extension. However, even with his future at Anfield potentially looking uncertain, it hasn’t looked to have had any impact on his popularity.

One fan decided to overlook Wijnaldum entirely by suggesting that Divock Origi, who was sitting across from the Dutchman in the image, has put on some weight.

It is unknown whether or not negotiations on a new deal for Wijnaldum have taken place behind the scenes. Given the global pandemic we are currently faced with and the financial strain this will undoubtedly put on the game, even if an agreement had been reached in principle, in our view, this doesn’t feel like an appropriate time to make such announcements, in any case.
