Liverpool-focused Twitter account @AnfieldEdition recently posted a tweet which shares the reported news that Liverpool are “in pole position” to secure the signature of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
As this tweet states, this news originally surfaced from French publication ‘Le10sport’, who have claimed that Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain have “set aside” their pursuit of the 28-year-old defender, which allegedly leaves the Reds “in pole position” to sign the player, according to this report, which goes on to state that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is “convinced” that a central defensive pairing of Koulibaly and Virgil van Dijk “can be a big hit”.
Some Liverpool fans also seem to think that this central defensive pairing could be a positive for the Reds as they have been responding positively to @AnfieldEdition’s tweet which shares this alleged news, with one Reds supporter even declaring that goalkeeper Alisson Becker wouldn’t “have to play again” if Koulibaly moved to Anfield.

What do we think?
Koulibaly’s Napoli contract currently runs until the end of June 2023, according to Transfermarkt, who value the Senegalese player at £50.4m.
As per WhoScored, the defender has earned an impressive average overall rating of 7.43 for Napoli in the UEFA Champions League this term, which makes him the club’s second-highest rated player for the 2019/20 campaign in this competition featuring Europe’s elite. With all of this in mind, Liverpool may need to spend big if they are to successfully take Koulibaly away from the Italian side.
