Fans of Everton have taken to social media to discuss Roberto Martinez after a Twitter post from Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones.
On Tuesday, it was four years to the day since the Spanish manager was sacked by the Toffees (via @Adam_Jones94), which had lots of fans discussing their former gaffer.
On this day in 2016, Roberto Martinez was sacked by Everton
A lot of ups and downs in that spell, but how would you assess the Spaniard's time at Goodison Park four years on? pic.twitter.com/LDnxANZcCz

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… lovely fella ….so stubborn he completely lost the plot

Inherited David Moyes defending principles, added his own attacking ideas to produce some of the best football we had seen in years, then completely neglected the defensive aspect of the game.

The worst manager I’ve seen manage Everton

Did Roberto Martinez deserve the sack at the end of his tenure with the Toffees?Yes, he just had to goNo, needed more time |
The now-Belgium manager was with the Toffees for just under three years having been appointed in June 2013 after spending nearly four years with Wigan Athletic (per Transfermarkt).
Overall, the Spaniard’s record with the Goodison Park club is respectable, having won 62 games of 143 in total with a points per game figure of 1.56 (per Transfermarkt), however, the manager divided opinion amongst fans.
Ruined the club with mediocrity.

First season excellent, the rest was like watching a disaster in slow motion

First season was the best football we’ve played in 30+ years. Exciting, young forward line with good balance across the team. Lost his way, lost balance, continued to play players out of position in subsequent years. Few ups but had to go.

What do we think?
As can be seen in the responses from Everton supporters, it seems that the majority of fans believe that the Spaniard started well at the club, however, later descended to an unacceptable level.
Having finished fifth during his first season in charge before dropping to 11th a season later and 12th the season after that (per Transfermarkt), it is clear to see why fans feel the way they do.
