Some West Brom fans have been reacting negatively to a tweet that was recently posted by the Championship’s official Twitter account which shares an image featuring a team made up of the EFL’s “best XI” which doesn’t include any Baggies players.

This “EFL best XI”, which is based on their ratings on Football Manager, features no West Brom players despite the fact that the Baggies currently sit in second place on the Championship table. This has prompted some Baggies fans to share some frustrated reactions in response to the EFL’s tweet, with one of the club’s supporters declaring that he “can’t wait to leave this league behind”.

To kick off our quiz on the inaugural 2004/05 EFL Championship campaign, who managed Sunderland to a first-place finish in the 2004/05 Championship season?

What do we think?

Considering that the Baggies are currently sitting in second place on the Championship table, it may be understandable why some West Brom supporters may feel slighted at the fact that none of their club’s players were included in this team showcasing the EFL’s “best XI”.

However, it simply appears that the Baggies players’ attributes on the latest edition of Football Manager are no match for their exploits this season – at least on an individual basis.

Baggies playmaker Matheus Pereira has been something of breakout star and so may look to be a particularly notable oversight from this EFL “best XI” side.

Pereira is currently the joint-top assist provider in the Championship for the 2019/20 season, having made 12 assists for the Baggies this term. Furthermore, the Brazilian playmaker is currently the fifth-highest rated player in the Championship this season, as per WhoScored.com of those to have played at least 18 times this season.

With that in mind, it could be argued that Pereira, amongst others, would deserve a place in a more authentic Championship XI at present.
