Some Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to react to some news that was recently shared in an article from the Sunderland Echo which links the club with a move for Marcus Maddison.

This article, which links the 26-year-old with a move to the Stadium of Light, claims that Maddison “is a supporter of The Black Cats”, before going on to state that the playmaker may become a free agent this summer.

The Peterborough Telegraph recently reported that Maddison, who is currently on loan at Hull City from Peterborough United, is unwanted by Posh manager Darren Ferguson, as per the club’s Director of Football Barry Fry, who is also quoted as saying that he and his club “would have no objections to Marcus staying at Hull for however long it takes to complete the season”.

However, this article also states that the Tigers “are not expected to take up” their option to sign the playmaker on a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell with the club, indicating that the player may become a free agent following the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign, with his Peterborough United contract also set to expire

Would you like to see Marcus Maddison join Sunderland?

YES, HE'D BE A GREAT SIGNING

NO, I DON'T WANT HIM

What do we think?

It may be fair to say that Maddison performed impressively with Peterborough United in League One earlier this season prior to joining Hull City on loan in January. The 26-year-old playmaker scored nine goals and provided six assists in his 22 League One appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, earning an average overall rating of 7.23 in the process, according to WhoScored.com

With that in mind, it may be understandable why the Black Cats may target Maddison, who is reportedly a Sunderland fan, should he become available on a free transfer this summer.
