Some Sunderland fans have flocked to footage of Carlos Edwards’ goal from Sunderland’s 3-2 win over Burnley on 27 April 2007 which has recently surfaced on Twitter

Many of the Sunderland fans who have been discussing this classic goal on social media lately have been sharing some positive memories of this strike. 

As stated by the BBC in their post-match report from this game, Edwards’ “stunning winner” took the Black Cats “to the top of the Championship” back in April 2007. 

Chronicle Live explained the significance of this classic strike in an article that was published in July 2019. This article states that Edwards’ winning goal from this game “as good as secured promotion” to the Premier League for Sunderland. The Black Cats’ promotion was subsequently confirmed “when Derby failed to win” their next game the following day, as per Chronicle Live.
