Sunderland fans have been discussing former players Danny Rose and Marcos Alonso on social media.
James Copley posed the question regarding who was the better performer during their time with the club via his Twitter account, and here is what some of the supporters had to say.
Rose – more consistent – could defend and attack

Danny Rose for me , both were excellent and at the time realistic signings permanently.

Both class. Think had Alonso had a little bit of a dip form wise so I’ll go Rose. Although he is now a mag ?

Was Danny Rose better than Marcos Alonso during his time at Sunderland?
Yes
No
Very tough call. I would just give the edge to Rose for me

It’s a tough call, but Danny Rose for me. Think he was more consistent during his season with us.

Rose. Rarely caught out defensively (Alonso was once per game, much like PVA) and loads of our attacking play went through him. A lot of MON’s game plan was give the ball to Rose and let him start an attack. He even did well when he had a bit cameo in CM!

Comfortably Rose; Alonso was overrated by Sunderland fans, despite what’s he’s gone on to achieve.

What do we think?
These Sunderland followers believe that Danny Rose was the better of the two during his time at the Stadium of Light. The left-back spent the 2012/13 season on Wearside before returning to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
The 29-year-old made 29 appearances for the Black Cats during his time there and despite the fact he now represents their local rivals Newcastle United, these fans remain appreciative of all that he contributed during his time in Sunderland colours.
The general consensus appears to be that Rose was more consistent and defensively more competent than the Spaniard, who now plays his football for Chelsea, where he has won three major trophies.
