A group of Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been discussing former defender Roland Nilsson after @TheStarOwls shared a photo of the now 56-year-old in the famous blue and white kit. The right-back joined the club in December 1989 from IFK Goteborg (via soccerbase.com).
A Swedish international, Nilsson helped his country to third-place finishes in both the 1992 UEFA European Championships and the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals – highlighting his pedigree as a footballer. He also won multiple league titles in his home country as well as winning the UEFA Cup and the English League Cup – the latter triumph coming with the Owls in 1991.
This recent post has led to a number of Wednesday fans sharing their memories of their former hero.

Brilliant, live every game. And a stunning professional.

What do we think?
It’s clear from the above responses that many of these fans believe Nilsson to be one of the club’s best-ever players. Considering what Nilsson achieved in his career, the Swede at his peak would arguably be an upgrade on Garry Monk’s current options in the second tier at Hillsborough, which leaves few surprises over the opinions of these Owls supporters.
