Some Charlton Athletic fans have been gushing over Addicks midfielder Josh Cullen on social media lately in response to a tweet that was posted by the club’s official Twitter account wishing the 24-year-old a happy birthday back on Tuesday.

Cullen originally joined Charlton on a season-long loan from West Ham United back in August 2018 as a 22-year-old. Cullen featured in 29 of the Addicks’ 46 League One fixtures during the 2018/19 campaign, helping them to achieve a third-place finish last season. Cullen subsequently played in all three of Charlton’s League One play-off fixtures last season, helping the Addicks to achieve promotion to the Championship.

The midfielder re-joined Charlton back in August 2019 on another season-long loan deal. He has featured in 25 of the Addicks’ 37 Championship games so far during the 2019/20 campaign, earning an average overall rating of 6.97, according to WhoScored.com. This is the highest average overall rating that has been earned by any Charlton player to have featured in more than one Championship game for the Addicks this term.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Cullen has been one of the Addicks’ best players this season. Read the supportive posts from some Charlton fans who have been full of praise for Cullen in response to the club’s recent post in honour of his birthday in the tweets below.

To kick off our quiz on the inaugural 2004/05 EFL Championship campaign, who managed Sunderland to a first-place finish in the 2004/05 Championship season?

What do we think?

It may be fair to say that Charlton Athletic might not be enjoying the best campaign, considering that the club currently sit in 22nd place in the Championship table, two points from safety. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some Addicks supporters hold a positive opinion of Cullen, considering that he may be one bright spark for them in an otherwise poor season.
