Some Celtic fans have recently been talking about their former player Paul McStay when a post about him went viral on social media.
A Celtic fan page with the name St. Anthony recently posted an image of McStay on Twitter. The post carried a description for McStay and it called him a ‘guiding light’ in ‘dark’ days for the club towards the end of his Celtic career.
On seeing this image, many Celtic fans were left happy. They had high praise for McStay and his contributions at Parkhead.
Just watched the hearts Scottish cup semi from 88, he was absolutely immense that day, 1 of the best midfield performances you will ever see. Could have played at any level he was that good..

Could have played with any club I Europe, we were so lucky to have him at our club, was fantastic throughout regardless of midfield support.

Was McStay as good as Andrea Pirlo?
He surely was
Pirlo was better
Greatest modern day Celt in my view. Carried us in the 90s when there was a long list of sub standard players (with some honourable exceptions) alongside him. Was fantastic on the ball as well. Loath comparisons but I always thought he was similar to Pirlo in style and ability

Was so privelaged to play against him, albeit near the end of his career. Along with Kenny Dalglish, was my idol. ?

Couldn’t agree more pal ?. McStay is my fav Celtic player of all time. In the early 90’s I seen in him a better day. He gave me belief, confidence and hope that we’d come through that difficult time. The loyalty he showed was amazing and we’ll never see that again in football.

McStay was a product of the Celtic youth academy and the Hoops were the only club he played for in his career. He came into the first-team in 1981 and retired from the game in the summer of 1997.
What do we think?
As per CelticWiki, McStay had made 515 league appearances for the Hoops. In all competitions, the midfielder made 678 appearances and he racked up 72 goals.
This shows how much he gave to Celtic and considering it was the only club he played for, the fans are sure to love his loyalty. Their comments on the post prove just how much they respect him.
