Spurs fans have been reacting to the club’s post on Twitter, which included a message from Daniel Levy.
The club chairman revealed that the club’s non-playing staff would be taking a 20% pay cut utilising the government’s furlough scheme.
In a statement on the club’s website, Levy said: “We have seen some of the biggest clubs in the world such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus take steps to reduce their costs. Yesterday, having already taken steps to reduce costs, we ourselves made the difficult decision – in order to protect jobs – to reduce the remuneration of all 550 non-playing directors and employees for April and May.”
The likes of Leeds United and Barcelona have announced in the past couple of weeks that the playing staff at their respective clubs will be taking pay cuts, in order to ensure that the non-playing staff will continue to earn their full wage from home, but it seems as if for now, Spurs will not be following suit.
Should the players take a pay cut?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to the club’s post with Levy’s message can be seen in the tweets below.
Players should be subsiding their wages, not the non-playing staff. Look at Barcelona and how they’ve handled their financial situation.

Between you, joe lewis and the players you could all do more for the non plying staff. But the greed in the game knows no bounds.

Disgraceful the club is not pushing players on millions per year to subsidize this. The government scheme is there for businesses that need it. And elite football clubs can surely utilise the enormous player wages to not need to use this scheme. Embarrassed to be a spurs fan rn

Football makes me sick sometimes. I’ll boycott supporting this club if the players don’t agree a pay cut so these employees don’t have to take a 20% cut. This is so disgraceful

Levy and lewis are disgusting human beings. Theres enough money in the club to pay these workers.

Oh no

Why not cut the players wages to help fund the non playing employees, actually a joke

These Spurs fans are clearly not impressed with the club’s decision and feel that the players should be the ones taking the wage cut.
What do we think?
Considering Spurs were recently named as the eighth-richest team in the world, it is disappointing that the club have taken these steps. Hopefully, the players will step up to take a wage cut in order to ensure that the non-playing staff continue to be paid in full.
