Spurs fans have been discussing some quotes from Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong, in which he named Steven Bergwijn as his toughest opponent.
The former Ajax midfielder spoke to the Barcelona website, as per Football Oranje earlier this week and when he was asked who the toughest player he has ever faced was, he said: “Steven Bergwijn” (via TranSPURS). Spurs signed the winger from Eredivisie side PSV during the January transfer window and his performances in the Dutch top-flight clearly impressed the Barcelona midfielder.
In his time with PSV, the 22-year-old contributed 31 goals and 41 assists in 149 games, before making the move to the Premier League in January. The Dutch international netted on his Spurs debut in a 2-0 win over Manchester City and added his second goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat against Wolves, but was injured just before the Premier League suspension.

These Spurs fans were clearly delighted with De Jong’s quotes and can’t wait to see more of Bergwijn when football does resume.

In his five appearances in the Premier League so far, Bergwijn has averaged a 6.96 rating, so it feels like Spurs fans are yet to see the best of the £31.5 million rated man.
