Some Southampton fans have been discussing the latest club update that was released by their social media account.
The Southampton Twitter account recently posted an update, saying that the board of directors, the first-team manager, his coaching staff and the first-team squad have agreed to defer part of their salaries. Their statement also confirmed that the Saints will not use the government’s Job Retention Scheme during April, May and June.
When this information was relayed on social media, many Saints fans were left in awe of their club’s decision.
Proud of this club. We might not be the biggest, but we are definitely the best. ?

This is a difficult time for all of us, but I’m sure every #SaintsFC supporter really values this statement. #WeMarchOn together.
Thank you for maintaining the club values. Hope to see you soon. ?

Is this the right move by Southampton?
I love it!
Shouldn't have done that
Another example why I’m proud of my club ?

Well done, classy as ever ????

???? good work. Other premier league clubs should follow suit. This won’t last forever and deferring just a small part of their salaries will make a big difference

Well done guys. Can’t be behaving like Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle at this time!

The statement from the club had also stated that they remain fully ‘committed’ to the community in Southampton. They also promised to ‘offer’ their ‘full support’ to the city during these tough times of the pandemic.
What do we think?
This act is certainly a noble one from Southampton, with the club opting not to furlough their non-playing staff, which is the approach Premier League rivals Tottenham have taken. This move from the Saints will help the non-playing staff during these tough times and one can see why fans absolutely love it.
