Mike Ashley’s time at Newcastle United appears to be approaching its end after it emerged recently that a deal had been agreed between the current owner and Amanda Staveley. The bid involves Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund as well as the Reuben brothers and is said to be worth £300m (as per the BBC).
The prospective owners should be looking to appoint a Director of Football as soon as possible – that’s according to the Chronicle, and @NUFC360 on Twitter believe that will be one of the new hierarchy’s ‘first actions’ once the deal is complete.
How have the fans responded to this latest update and who would they like to see fill the role?

It would get people excited by getting Keegan but if the level of investment is going to be as thought let’s go for someone best in class who understands how the modern game works and who has lots of contacts to get us the players we want.

What do we think?
It may be fair to call Kevin Keegan a Newcastle United legend and based on the above replies, if he is being considered for the role, he would be a very popular choice in the eyes of the club’s supporters. The 69-year-old had two spells at the club as manager, the first of which occurred between January 1992 and January 1997. He then returned to St James’ Park in January 2008, however, his second stint as Magpies boss only lasted until September of that year.
According to these fans, his enthusiasm for the club would make him the ideal candidate for the position.
