Some Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Daily Mail football correspondent Craig Hope, who has claimed that Magpies owner Mike Ashley “was hours away from confirming” the agreement of a £300m deal for the sale of the club “last week”.
Hope’s tweet goes on to explain that the “Saudi owners in-waiting” insisted that Ashley delay this planned announcement. This tweet shares a link to an article which was recently published by the Daily Mail which states that “any public statements will only be made when the takeover is given the green light by the Premier League”, which the publication claims may occur “within the next three weeks at the latest”.
Some Magpies supporters have been reacting positively to Hope’s recent tweet sharing this news. Read the reactions of some Newcastle supporters to Hope’s recent post in the tweets below.
Exclusive: Mike Ashley was hours away from confirming £300m deal for sale of NUFC last week only for Saudi owners in-waiting to insist on delay. Saudi custom is to wait until completion before announcement, explaining why no statement. That’ll be next 3wks https://t.co/j6cOh7K3H7

Great news. Tells us how confident he is of leaving!

Some Newcastle United fans took this news to mean that the sale of the club appears to be nearing its completion, meanwhile, other Magpies supporters took this opportunity to praise the decision to delay the announcement confirming the sale of the club.
For the people struggling to understand this. The saudi owners delayed an announcement because the deal is not official until the premier league approve it. They are doing what is right. Mike wanted to do something he’s always been against which is wierd!

That’s not tradition, that’s just sound business. Don’t make announcements until the deal is 100% done.

Do you think that this report proves that the sale of Newcastle United is all but complete?YES, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME NOWNO, THIS PROVES NOTHING |
If true, this has to be a first for Ashley; he actually thought BEFORE he acted. Better late than never, I guess? #nufc

Incase the premier league dont declare them fit and proper to own a club the announcement will be delayed so know 1 can say either party was lying or to lead the fans on just for it to be wrong

What do we think?
It may be fair to say that Mike Ashley has been unpopular with many Magpies supporters throughout his tenure as owner of the club. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some Newcastle fans have reacted positively to this recent report stating that he had been set to confirm the sale of the club last week.
