Who is this?

When asked if the club has made any attempt to make contact with Longstaff regarding his contract since the Premier League was suspended due to the current global pandemic.

The reply given to this question was:

“No. As far as I know, there was a take it or leave it to offer on the table. Whether that is now a good offer given the turmoil in the game, it’s hard to say.”

According to Transfermarkt, Longstaff’s current contract at St. James’ Park runs out at the end of June this year.

The Englishman has made 12 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side so far this season, seven in the Premier League in which he has scored two goals, four appearances in the FA Cup in which he scored one goal and one other appearance in the Carabao Cup (per Transfermarkt).

The 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £3.24 million according to Transfermarkt, is currently Newcastle’s 16th highest rated player in the league so far this campaign with a season rating of 6.63/10 according to WhoScored.

As well as this season rating, WhoScored claims that one of Longstaff’s strengths as a player includes his long shots.

Given how little Longstaff has been used throughout the season by Steve Bruce, it’s no surprise that there has been little talk or confirmation on a new contract for the midfielder.
