A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from Luke Edwards regarding the latest in the takeover saga at St. James’ Park.
He claimed that someone he knows doesn’t think the Premier League will have either the appetite or the power to block the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium.
The deal for Mike Ashley to sell the club is agreed and is now in the hands of the Premier League as it goes through the owners’ and directors’ test.
This tweet from Edwards, though, indicates that this won’t be a problem, and it has delighted these Newcastle fans.
Does this update excite you?
Yes, big news
No, I am still not convinced
I have no idea if this is right, but someone I know who knows about these things doesn’t think there is any chance Premier League will have either the appetite or the power to block #nufctakover. Which reminds me, must order two crates of wine. Have fallen below 20 in the house

It’s always a good sign if Luke can’t see it being an issue. He takes a load of flak for not saying what fans want to hear but then he’s usually been correct.
Thanks for this

What do we think?
In the past week, numerous challenges have been put forward against this proposed takeover by the likes of Amnesty International, BeIN Sports, and Fair Square, but if Edwards’ tweet is to be believed, then none of this should be a problem in the sense that the Premier League either has no intention of blocking it or are unable to do so.
A report from Edwards’ paper, the Daily Telegraph, claimed that the deal would be done in the coming days, so if that report is true, then the Toon might not have long to wait before Ashley is officially out of their club.
