Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of FIFA’s statement regarding player contract extensions.
According to reports in The Sun, FIFA has stated that player contracts cannot be extended beyond June 30, meaning that any player on a contract which ends this summer will become a free agent on July 1.
This includes City midfielder David Silva, who announced last year that he would be leaving City this summer after spending 10 years with the club.
In reaction to the post, which was relayed by Man City Xtra on Twitter, fans of the club have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many stating their sadness at the fact that they may have already seen their beloved midfielder play his last game for the club.
FIFA cannot extend player contracts beyond June 30th – players whose contracts are ending will become free agents from July 1st.

What do we think?
Although player contracts that are due to end this summer cannot be extended, there is some good news for City fans.
According to the reports in The Sun, FIFA’s legal director Garcia Silvero stated: “FIFA cannot extend the contracts beyond June 30 but the transfer windows will not be the same and the players will not be able to be registered. It means the market will not open on July 1.”
As such, although Silva’s contract will technically end on June 30, he would not be able to move to another club until the transfer window opens. What this means is, if City can come to an arrangement with Silva, he may be able to complete the season with City, whenever that may be.
