Leicester City-focused Twitter account @LCFCFoxes_com caught the attention of many Foxes supporters recently after posting a tweet asking Leicester fans which player hurt them the most by leaving the club.
Many Leicester fans have been responding to this tweet by naming ex-Foxes centre-forward Gary Lineker as that player, with one Foxes fan declaring that Lineker “was only just showing how good he would be” when he left Leicester to join Everton in July 1985.

#Lineker was only just showing how good he would be. A couple more years at Leicester would’ve been good.

What do we think?
As per the Foxes’ official website, Lineker, who was born in Leicester, scored a total of 103 goals in 216 games for the Foxes before leaving the club. The article from Leicester City’s official website speaks glowingly about Lineker, stating that he went on the become known as “one of the world’s best forwards”.
Despite scoring over 100 goals for the club, it may be fair to say that Lineker’s career hit its highest peaks after he had left Leicester City, earning such accolades as the 1986 World Cup Golden Boot, in addition to being named as runner-up in the European Footballer of the Year awards in 1986 after his performances for Everton and England that year. His performances were impressive enough to convince Barcelona to bring the Englishman to the Camp Nou following that year’s World Cup.
With all of that in mind, it may be understandable why some Leicester fans may regret selling Lineker when they did.
