Many West Brom fans have recently taken to Twitter to share their appreciation for their former manager Gary Megson on social media.
The Baggies’ official Twitter account recently made a post to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Megson’s appointment as manager of the club. Megson was first appointed manager of West Brom on the ninth of March 2000, with the club sitting in 20th place in Division One, England’s second-tier at the time.
Despite arriving at a relegation-battling West Brom side in March 2000, Megson went on to guide The Baggies to a Premier League promotion just two seasons later, in the 2001/02 campaign.
The Baggies were subsequently relegated from the top-flight after just one season, however, they were ultimately rewarded for retaining the services of the man who originally helped them to the Premier League in the 2001/02 season, as The Baggies achieved promotion to England’s top-flight once again in the 2003/04 campaign.

The apparent motivation he gave the players prior to the Palace game and eventual first promotion to the PL. He called the partners and children of the players into the dressing room prior to the game and told the players to do it for them!

Megson guided West Brom to two promotions during a tenure which lasted just under four years, first arriving at the club in March 2000 and subsequently leaving The Baggies in October 2004. Megson’s tenure of 1692 days, which took place between March 2000 and October 2004, is the third-longest tenure of any West Brom manager in history, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Considering the amount of time he spent as Baggies manager, as well as the success he enjoyed during his time at the club, it may be understandable for some West Brom fans to look back fondly on Megson’s West Brom career to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his appointment.
