In advance of Sunderland’s matchup against Gillingham this weekend, Sunderland fans are speculating about who Phil Parkinson should pick in his starting 11. After losing to Coventry last weekend, some may think that it is time for Parkinson to freshen things up.
Roker Report posed the question to the Sunderland fans, asking them how they would lineup for the match.
There were many supporters who agreed that they would like to see one or two changes. One of those changes, specifically, was seeing Denver Hume take a break for Declan John.
John, who is valued at £720k (as per Transfermarkt), joined the Black Cats in January on loan from Swansea, but has yet to even be named in Parkinson’s squad since. These fans reckon it is time to give Hume a break.

Probably switch Hume for John and play a top two of grigg and semenyo to see how both get on.

Should Declan John come in for Denver Hume?
Yes
No
What do we think?
Hume has started 28 games for Sunderland in League One this season and has come off the bench in the competition twice. Despite having a respectable average rating of 6.67/10 on WhoScored, perhaps it is time he is awarded a short break.
While fans are counting on the manager to make one or two small tweaks, chances are that they don’t want to see too many wholesale changes in fear of losing the side’s impressive momentum.
