A lot of Middlesbrough fans have responded to a tweet from Gazette Boro asking them what would they do with Daniel Ayala.
Do you want Ayala to sign a new contract?
Yes
No
The Spaniard has made 216 appearances for Boro and has played in the Premier League for them in the 2016/17 season.
However, the 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but the report suggests that he would have to agree to a deal on ‘significantly reduced terms’ if he wants to stay.
There is no mention of talks in the report, but these Boro fans clearly want Ayala to stay at the Riverside.

Do I want our best player to stay? Obviously

He vastly improves this team & we’ll be lucky to bring in anybody close to as good as him at our level; even if does play 4 in 5. I’m surprised there’s any question over this.

Why wouldn’t you!!??

Why u even asking that

Other Middlesbrough supporters, though, do not seem too bothered about losing the Spaniard.
Cracking player but far too unreliable #halfaseasonayala

Not bothered. He’s always out for 2-3 months around the turn of the year, he’ll be one of the bigger wage earners and he’s not getting any younger. Best days are behind him.

Time to say ciao, goes missing in Jan/Feb every season. Great servant but thanks and goodbye.

What do we think?
Ayala is considered to be one of the best defenders in the Championship, but injury problems in recent years have limited him to 58 league appearances since the beginning of last season.
It will be interesting to see if Steve Gibson decides to hand Ayala a new contact and extend his stay with Jonathan Woodgate’s men.
