Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing a cryptic Twitter post that Jan Vertonghen sent out recently.
Vertonghen recently posted a tweet featuring a clock emoji. When Spurs fans saw this, it left them discussing what his message meant. Many thought it was about the Belgian potentially signing a new deal at the club soon, while others were confused by it altogether.
Should Vertonghen sign a new Tottenham contract?
He should do that!
He should leave

This season, Vertonghen has made 19 Premier League appearances and has one goal to his name. That goal came late in their clash against Wolves, helping them to a 2-1 win away from home in December. He recently scored the club’s only goal in their FA Cup shootout defeat to Norwich City.
Last month, Vertonghen was seen nearly breaking down in tears after being taken off by Jose Mourinho in Spurs’ FA Cup replay against Southampton.
What do we think?
While it is anyone’s guess what the clock sign meant, Vertonghen’s current deal at the club runs out in the summer of 2020. In that sense, it is easy to see why fans would speculate about this being a hint over a new contract in the future.
However, Vertonghen has picked up an overall WhoScored match rating of 6.85 in the Premier League this season. That is the lowest for him in a Tottenham shirt in the competition. That could be a sign of how he is past his best and a new contract might not be the best idea for Spurs.
