Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night after Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid stunned Anfield with three goals in extra time.
Goalkeeper Adrian’s poor clearance led to Marcos Llorente’s first goal but Jurgen Klopp refused to criticise the Spanish stopper publicly in his post-match press conference. The 33-year-old took to social media after the game and posted a message to the fans via Twitter expressing his sadness and disappointment but there was no apology for his error.
Should Lonergan have started ahead of Adrian?
Yes
No
Teammate Andy Lonergan took to the platform in order to show some support for his teammate and some of the supporters’ reactions are below, which include a call for the reserve ‘keeper to start in the Reds’ Merseyside derby against Everton – which has since been postponed.
I will always stand by our players. Because YNWA is not only our motto but a way of life

We have a right to be annoyed, the outfield 10 played out there skin… however we can criticise but never send death threats or go that far, especially to our players

What do we think?
Adrian’s tweet came within an hour of the conclusion of Wednesday night’s match and that probably didn’t help in terms of aggravating the fans. The former West Ham United goalkeeper has made 18 appearances for the club to date, keeping just three clean sheets in the process (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). The Premier League’s suspension until 3rd April means Alisson could be fit to return to the starting line-up by the time the Reds play another game.
