Spurs fans have been reacting to some quotes from Eric Dier about his desire to play more regularly as a centre-back.
The 26-year-old featured as a centre-back in Spurs’ 3-2 defeat against Wolves on Sunday and has since spoken to the media, saying (per Standard Sport via Daily Hotspur): “That’s the position I see myself playing, that’s where I see my future.”
The England international has struggled so far this season, averaging a disappointing 6.61 rating in the Premier League but produced a slightly more solid display in Sunday’s fixture, earning a 6.95 rating for his performance against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
With Jan Vertonghen potentially leaving the club with his contract expiring in the summer, perhaps there will be more regular game-time for the former Sporting Lisbon man as a centre-back next season.
Is Dier good enough for Spurs?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to the quotes from Dier can be seen in the tweets below.
He’ll be better off in a slower paced league like Serie A. Not up to the pace of the premier league anymore

Think it is his best position, he just needs to play there for a different team

Just in the Championship. Form fallen off a cliff. Do hope he gets it back before the boring one gets rid of him.

Hopefully use him as a make weight in some deal to bring in someone else. Love his drive for the club and puts his foot in. Just not good enough for us and where we want to go

These Spurs fans all seem to be of the opinion that Dier is far from good enough to play for Spurs, irrespective of what position he plays in.
What do we think?
Dier, who is valued at £27 million (as per Transfermarkt), has in recent years, been unable to replicate the form he showed in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons for Spurs when he was much more of a regular, but perhaps he will get a run of games in his favoured position this season to show Mourinho what he can do.
