Spurs fans have been discussing a post from Alasdair Gold regarding former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 30-year-old cancelled his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor by mutual consent earlier this week, which, understandably, led to some Spurs fans suggesting that the club sign him as a free agent. The North London club are, of course, still without Harry Kane after his hamstring injury, so the idea of bringing in a forward with 77 Premier League goals seemed like an attractive one to some.

However, Gold was quick to quash any hopes of signing the former England international, revealing in his article for Football.London that the Lilywhites, along with any other Premier League side, will be unable to sign Sturridge, due to a rule which stipulates the free agent must have left his previous club before the closure of the transfer window in order to sign for another club outside of the transfer window.

These Spurs fans seem glad to hear that Sturridge won’t be joining the North London club anytime soon.

What do we think?

Sturridge probably won’t be joining any team now that it has been confirmed that he has been banned from all football for four months, but his injury problems suggest that he may not have been the best signing for Spurs anyway.
