Spurs fans have been discussing Fernando Llorente after Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold suggested that it was a mistake to not replace the Spanish striker.
Tottenham News shared footage from Gold’s YouTube video, in which he discusses the former Swansea striker, suggesting that it was a poor decision to not replace him after he left last summer. The club opted not to extend the veteran striker’s contract, meaning he was free to join Napoli on a free transfer earlier in the current campaign.
However, the North London club failed to bring in another striker in the summer or January transfer windows, meaning they were left without a senior striker, following the hamstring injury suffered by Harry Kane. So far this season, Llorente has made just three starts for Napoli in Serie A, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench, but he has still managed to contribute three goals.
Was letting Llorente leave a big mistake by Spurs?
Yes
No
A sample of tweets from Spurs fans discussing Llorente and the failure to replace him can be seen below.
Moura was 10x better with Llorente around, holding up the ball and letting him get those runs. Big mistake to let him go with no replacement

These Spurs fans certainly seem to agree that letting Llorente leave was a poor decision, as well as failing to replace him.
What do we think?
Llorente was important in Spurs’ run to the Champions League final last season; contributing one goal and four assists in the competition, so it was perhaps a surprise that the club let him leave on a free transfer.
