Spurs fans have been reacting to some news on Jan Vertonghen after the defender refused to rule out a move to his old club Ajax.
In an interview with Dutch news outlet OpVier, with quotes relayed by Voetbal Primeur, the defender admitted that a return to the Eredivisie side could be on the cards. When asked if he would return to the Dutch giants, he said: “Who knows. It’s always been sort of in the planning, yes.” (via Ricky Sacks)
Spurs originally signed the Belgian international from Ajax in 2012, and he has since gone on to make 311 appearances for the North London club; contributing 14 goals and seven assists. However, with the 32-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of June and the season currently suspended, he may well have already played his last game for the club.
Would you give Vertonghen a new deal?

Love Superjan but his best days are behind him. Great servant of the club.

It would be sad to see, but (unlike others) he’s handled himself with class on and off the field! I will always respect this guy!!

A good move for all imo. Jan has been an incredible servant to the club. But I believe the time is right to move on.

These Spurs fans are clearly upset to hear that Vertonghen could leave, but most seem to agree that he is past his best.
What do we think?
Vertonghen has made 19 appearances in the Premier League so far this season; averaging a 6.85 rating, which suggests that, although fans seem to think he is past his best, he could still be a useful squad player for Jose Mourinho next season should they offer him a deal.
